Service Details
MODEL one-on-one sessions offer tailored support and feedback across various aspects of English language proficiency. Each session is 45 minutes and allows you to meet with a language teaching expert who will provide guidance specific to your language learning needs. Our one-on-one appointments cover eight categories:
- First Appointment: An introductory session for you to explore our services and for us to understand your language learning goals and challenges. This session is ideal for first-time users of MODEL services.
- Professional Development: Focuses on the academic and professional growth of McMaster students who speak English as a second/foreign language. The session offers support and feedback on language aspects related to academic presentations, professional communication, study habits, and more.
- Speaking Skills: Focuses on improving conversational English and pronunciation. You will have the opportunity to practice speaking on various topics and receive personalized feedback on pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and more.
- Walk & Talk: A relaxed, casual way to practice your English while enjoying a walk on campus. This session allows you to engage in natural conversation, helping you improve fluency, pronunciation, and confidence in speaking. Ideal for those who prefer a dynamic, outdoor learning environment. (Weather-dependent)
- Listening Skills: Offers practice sessions for everyday conversations or academic lectures comprehension, along with valuable tips on listening skills.
- Reading Skills: Focuses on improving your reading comprehension skills essential for higher education. Here, you will practice strategies to comprehend academic English texts and other materials more effectively. This includes enhancing reading fluency, expanding vocabulary, and learning active reading techniques.
- Writing Skills: Offers feedback on your written work, such as assignments and research papers. While we do not offer editing services, we provide feedback on the structure, organization, word choice, and grammar of your writing to help enhance your writing skills.
- English Language Assessment: In partnership with Cambridge English Language Assessment, we offer diagnostic English proficiency testing. You can use this service to assess your English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
- Student Advisor: Led by an advisor experienced in both English language teaching and counselling, this confidential session allows discussions on personal, social, cultural, and academic issues.
Booking an appointment using this calendar will create an online meeting with one of our consultants through MS Teams. You will receive a link via email. Students may book up to 3 appointments per week, if available.
